Right now, we’re deep in the prototyping phase for our upcoming Multi-Mount Panel (MMP) for the 2023+ Chevy Colorado, and we’re excited to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the process.

Why Prototype? Because Fit and Function Matter.

Many aftermarket brands take shortcuts—using generic, "universal" mounting solutions or copied designs from other models. But that’s not how we operate at Desert Does It.

Every Multi-Mount Panel (MMP) we develop is:

For the 2023+ Chevy Colorado, we knew we had to start from scratch, designing a mounting system that integrates seamlessly without compromising durability or ease of installation.

The Prototyping Process: How We Do It

Step 1: Vehicle Measurements & Concept Design
Before we even cut the first prototype, we meticulously measure and analyze the Chevy Colorado’s interior dimensions, seat mounts, and available space. This step ensures that our Multi-Mount Panel won’t interfere with seat adjustments, wiring, or other essential vehicle functions.

Step 2: Modeling & Initial Fabrication
Our engineers design a mounting system that integrates with the factory setup. From there, we fabricate the first prototype, carefully cutting, shaping, and adjusting components until we get the right fit.

Step 3: Test Fitting in the Chevy Colorado
A prototype isn’t worth much if it doesn’t fit perfectly in the real-world environment. We install the first MMP prototypes into a 2023+ Chevy Colorado, checking for:
✔️ Proper fitment around factory seats and hardware
✔️ Secure, rattle-free mounting points
✔️ Optimal angles for mounting accessories like radios, fire extinguishers, or MOLLE gear

Step 4: Final Fitment & Adjustments
Once the initial fitment checks out, we put our prototype through use tests to ensure it can handle real-world use —from daily commutes to off-road abuse. If adjustments are needed, we tweak the design, refine the cuts before finalizing production.
